My new book, Intercede: Saints for Concerning Occasions, comes out next month. It’s officially being released on Tuesday, May 6 by Unsolicited Press. The press has proclaimed 2025 as the “Year of Womxn” and I’m thrilled to be part of their womxn only line-up.
As my press says, “We’re not playing nice. Every book we publish this year will wear a bold, red—a nod to the badass feminists who came before us and a protest against the relentless attacks on womxn’s rights.”
In anticipation of the book’s release, here’s four things I’m doing to get ready.
1. I’m reading my book for the first time.
Obviously, I’ve read it. I wrote it after all. But up until now, I’ve been reading it with a critical eye. How can this line be better? How can I tighten this section up more? Is that word really necessary?
Now it’s time to snuggle up and read it purely for the joy of reading. It’s fun meeting my book in this new way. I’m finding Intercede to be a delightful, deep, and wild ride. I highly recommend it!
2. I’m making saintly swag.
I like the idea of sending my book out into the world with a few friends at her side. More about this in a future post that will include lots of swaggy pictures! But here’s a hint: decoupage, baby!
While working on this saintly swag, it got me wondering, How might I cast a wider net and create something that any future reader of Intercede could participate in, no matter where they live? (Hey, that sounds dangerously like the inclusive “I” in DEI!)
So, to cast the net wider, I’m putting final touches to the FIRST EVER Reading & Writing Saint Challenge that will be unveiled next week right here on Writing Without a Net. It’s sure to be a fun challenge that we all can do! Prizes may even be involved!
3. I’m worrying.
Birthing a book feels a bit like parenting. This book has rumbled inside me for years. Now it’s about to strike out on its own.
Your book will go places you can’t imagine, meet people you’ve never met, and have her own adventures. You hope your book will find friends who will hold her dear.
4. I’m trying to support my other books.
Like older siblings, these books are anxious for Intercede’s arrival.
I’ve assured them that there is more than enough love to go around and that we won’t forget about them. I will continue to pick them up, and pass them along. I hope you will too.
If you are able to celebrate the launch with me at this is a bookstore on Thursday, May 22nd, RSVP here for this free event. Then you can also say hello to some of my other books.
Can’t wait!
